New York City is offering discounts to tourism and hospitality businesses as it looks to attract Canadian tourists back to the city.
The city on Tuesday announced the summer travel incentive for Canadians called “ NYC’s Northern Neighbour Deal ,” which offers a 30 per cent discount at more than 85 participating hotels , Broadway shows, attractions , restaurants, museums and more.
Canadian travel spending on visits to the United States declined by $3.3 billion in 2025, according to Statistics Canada last week . New York City said Canada remains its second-largest source of international visits, with more than 800,000 visitors expected this year.
“Canadian tourists are a vital part of our visitor economy, spending more than $1 billion in New York City in 2024 alone,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a press release.
The city said the discount, which will run from Aug. 18 through Sept. 7, is designed to help offset the currency exchange rate for Canadians. Reservations for the incentive open on Aug. 4 on its tourism website .
NYC said it is focused on growing Canadian visitation and regaining market share “as the city works to return this important international market to previous visitation levels.”
In addition to discounts at the NYC businesses, Toronto-based Porter Airlines is also offering up to 20 per cent off all New York itineraries for travel through Dec. 15. Flights must be booked by Aug. 7. Porter operates up to 91 weekly flights to the New York City metropolitan area, serving LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
“As we work to welcome even more travellers from one of our closest neighbours, initiatives like the Northern Neighbour Deal deepen the ties between our communities and invite more people to experience everything that makes New York City unlike anywhere else on earth,” said Mamdani.
