Kids on trampolines weren’t the only things flying at the New Westminster Extreme Air Park on Saturday afternoon. There were also fists.
Two people were arrested and now face possible charges following “an argument over a birthday cake” that escalated at the trampoline park over the weekend.
According to videos and posts shared online, a physical altercation unfolded at the venue between a staff member and a patron stemming from a disagreement about a birthday cake.
The incident, described in a statement posted to the venue’s Instagram account Tuesday, began after a customer booked a party room and brought a cake for the event, contrary to the company’s policy.
Under its package booking page for birthday parties, the company’s website says they supply an ice cream cake and pizza for parties, and while substitutions to the package aren’t allowed, outside food is allowed for a $30 fee.
In videos posted online, it appears an argument over the cake escalated with a man challenging a staff member to a fight. Threats of violence and verbal insults were also captured in a

“(I’ll) put you in the dirt faster than you can think,” a man can be heard saying in the video.
“Your mom hates you. That’s why you hate your life. Your mom hates you. Got beat by your dad … buddy.”
Another man, believed to be a staff member, responds by throwing the cake into the garbage.
The company statement goes on to say police were called and that the group was escorted from the premises, but that the man returned with five or six others an hour later, and police once again attended.
At this point, videos on social media show one man punching another who rushes at him with a phone upraised.
New West police confirmed two individuals were arrested and that charges of assault had been recommended.
“This incident appears to have stemmed from an argument over a birthday cake,” said a spokesperson. Postmedia News has asked for clarification about whether those arrested are staff or patrons.
“This issue arose when this customer phoned and asked if we would store his cake in our coolers, to which we declined,”
the company wrote in an Instagram statement
.
“Still, the customer arrived to our facility demanding his cake be stored contrary to cross-contamination policy. We again declined his demand. The customer later came back and was belligerent, belittling and demanding to our team.
“The individual was removed from the facility by police, however, he later returned … to seek out the team member again, resulting in a physical altercation. The individual filming our team member had already been physical with our team multiple times and had been advised by attending officers that such conduct was not permitted.”
The business said they had footage that backed up their allegations of the customer getting physical with their staff.
Extreme Air Park staff haven’t yet replied to Postmedia’s request for comment.
