Trucker charged for having Teams meeting while driving on Ontario highway

A charge has been laid under the Highway Traffic Act after Ontario Provincial Police say a trucker was spotted attending a video meeting while driving on Hwy. 402.

It was Sunday when a tractor trailer was stopped on the 402 after the driver was found attending a Teams video meeting while behind the wheel, Lambton OPP said in a social media post on Monday.

“That’s not multitasking. That’s distracted driving, and it puts everyone on the road at risk,” the OPP post said.

One person is charged under the Highway Traffic Act for having a display screen visible to the driver, police said.

Lambton OPP added that officers continue to target distracted driving through education and enforcement as part of an ongoing campaign.

“If you’re driving, you’re not available. It’s that simple,” police said in the social media post. “One moment of distraction can change lives forever. Stay focused. No excuses.”
