Bank of Montreal has announced that Dollarama Inc. is joining its Blue Rewards — formerly known as Air Miles — in a partnership meant to reach value-seeking Canadians.
The bank said the new partnership with Dollarama, one of Canada’s most accessible retailers, “reinforces a shared focus on helping households make the most of their everyday budgets.”
Customers at more than 1,700 Dollarama stores nationwide would earn points on qualifying purchases of $20 or more made with a linked BMO payment card, while BMO Blue Rewards credit cardholders can earn 10 times the points.
“We’re excited to partner with Dollarama to deliver more value to Canadians by expanding how members can earn from their everyday spending and make real financial progress,” Chris Wragg, BMO’s vice-president of strategic partnerships, Blue Rewards, said in a press release.
Wragg said the multi-year partnership with Dollarama builds on the discount retailer’s commitment to value.
“With affordability top of mind for many, Canadians are focused on managing their budgets and getting the most from every dollar,” he said. “By meeting our members where they already shop for essentials, we’re making it easier to turn routine purchases into meaningful value and bring this benefit to more Canadians across the country.”
Dollarama’s chief information officer Nicolas Hien said partnering with Blue Rewards allows the retailer to enhance its customers’ shopping experience by adding rewards to purchases they are already making, “delivering a practical benefit that fits naturally into their daily lives.”
The bank launched Blue Rewards earlier this month, transitioning from Air Miles, one of Canada’s largest loyalty programs which it acquired in 2023 . The new rewards program replacing Air Miles was introduced in January with brands including Pharmasave and Global Pet Foods remaining on the program while new partners including Porter Airlines, certain hotel brands and restaurants added on.
